Errrmahgeerrd I’m so excited to be in this blog hop for so many reasons:
- I love Sonia from Natural New Age Mum… she keeps me honest and gets me to get off my butt and do things like cancel my subscription to the white pages and junk mail!
- I’m so nosy – I love knowing what is in people’s fridges
- I want to share with you all a sneak peek in my fridge
I didn’t pretty it up for you or buy anything special (ain’t nobody got time for dat!) and when I took the pic, all I could think of was eeek…. must. cut. down. plastic! Aaaand you’ll notice that it’s an honest look. Not everything is organic, or super expensive, and not everything is a superfood. This is real.
Here is a peek inside my fridge. As I’m writing this I’ve realised that my eating habits have changed so much over the last couple of years (for the better). More clean, less processed foods, more awesome foods.
So, to break it down just a little more:
The Fridge Door
Dairy products – cheese, cream cheese, some organic butter, mayonnaise – Me, I’m vegan, but the hubby isn’t. While he doesn’t really eat beef or lamb, he does indulge in dairy, eggs and a bit of meat here and there.
Tofutti – next over is vegan cream cheese. These days I don’t really need substitutes, although sometimes I’ll indulge in cheezly mozzarella or some notzarella if we’re having pizza.
Passata – a bit of tomato sauce stuff always comes in handy
Tamari – the wheat free version of soy sauce. Mmmm…. soy sauce
Soda water and lime juice – a winning combo. I don’t really drink (maybe two drinks a month) but soda water and lime juice in a wine glass always does the trick!
Condiments etc – mostly Rosco’s mayo, aioli, some yeast for home made bread/ pizza and some pizza sauce
This is where my stuff really starts to show up:
Probiotics and Floravit Liquid Iron supplements – since I’ve become vegan, I haven’t really needed my probiotics, but I still think they’re a fabulous thing for everyone to have, and I take iron supplements a few times a week (even though I just had my tests and I’m all tickety boo)
Almond Butter – one of my all time favourite foods. Most mornings I’ll have almond butter with an apple for breakfast. Heaven….
Pickles etc – spiced gherkins (what you snack on while you’re cooking dinner after work), and behind that is some olives and sun dried tomatoes
Hemp Seeds – great for smoothies, for bliss balls and all sorts of lovely things
Organic butter and ham – if he is going to eat that, it may as well be free range and organic
Vegie spread – not used as much as the almond butter, gives that vegemite/ marmite taste while being vegan and a tad healthier than vegemite
Medjool Dates – the fresh dates from the fruit and vege section. If you have not bought medjool dates, you’re missing out on a world of yummy desserts. Think of my four ingredient yummy fudge, or Wholefood Simply’s Chewy Chocolate Cookies
Nudie Juice Boxes – Mostly for Rosco to take to work, but I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t had a few of the orange juices. Nudie juices have nothing (absolutely nothing) but fruit juice.
Spinach – like popeye
Eggs – Eggs by Ella for Rosco (free range). He probably has six eggs a month these days.
More lime juice
Sushi Ginger – in Japan they use it as a palate cleanser. I just like a bit of bite when I’m eating sushi or something else with soy sauce
Some baby courgettes and squash, some more medjool dates and prunes that were given to me by a friend and carrots… lots of carrots for hummous (usually my fridge also somewhere has a tub of hummous, but best laid plans… I planned on making some on the weekend but it didn’t happen).
Sauerkraut – it is a fermented food which means it is good for your gut – eat it with salads, on toasted sandwiches, and vegan hotdogs
Tahini – I go through one of these jars every couple of weeks (because I make so much hommous). It is great for salad dressings, just drizzled plain on veggies, in bliss balls and heaps of other stuff.
Flaxseed oil – it goes rancid in heat, so it is best to keep it in the fridge. I really like the taste of flaxseed oil (and it is really good – full of Omega 3s) and it is great drizzled on salads and anything else not super heated
Fruit and Veggies – varies every time – cucumber, two lettuce, watermelon, cauliflower, pumpkin, apples, mandarins, lemons, limes, beetroot, asparagus, leek, corn, capsicum
